Toxoplasma gondii

So here’s the deal – this virus needs a cat
To reproduce, but it can live in us
And many other mammals – say, a rat.
Now naturally rats do not much like dear Puss.
But we do. And we make a lot of trash,
Which rats do like, so what’s a rat to do?
That virus in that rat that’s not so brash
Around a cat – it has a problem, too.
Or did. It’s learned to give a wicked twist
To Ratty’s brain so Ratty finds the smell
Of cat-piss very high up on the list
Of things for which he’d brave the gates of Hell.
I know some people don’t like cats. They’re crazy
Not loving creatures so divinely lazy.

This one was fun to write, even though it took me most of the day.

Fun to read, too.
Request: recombinant DNA?
Also, looking out the window, the wonders of chlorophyll–so many possible rhymes!
